The ground upon which the Hotel Machiavelli stands was formerly
home to a convent which was founded by a group of monks in 1206…
later on in 1256 the church came under the protection of the Templar
Knights… after a catalogue of incidents the building was partially
destroyed and then rebuilt in 1700… this building is the one
which currently houses the Hotel Machiavelli. Built to last, the
Machiavelli owes much of its architectonic longevity to two rich
Florentine families the Salimbeni and Barontini who made their money
when Florence was at the height of it's mercantile mercurial
magic. The family shield above the entrance is testament it's
founders and will remain for years to come.
